Today…

Today little M is having long term tubes put in both ears… the tubes she had before worked great for a few months, then failed.

These have a flange on them that goes inside of the ear drum to hold them in, and they have a wider opening to help put less pressure on the ear drum.

She had a CAT scan on her ears last week to see if something bone related was the problem…we’ll find out about that, also.
I am trying not to get my hopes up about these tubes, but I really really want my little girl to hear.
She struggles SO much with sounds, and we can really tell. When she repeats something back to us that we have said loudly, she almost always repeats it wrong. Unless I am speaking directly and a bit loudly into her better ear, she is lost. At this point her big ear is only better…even though it used to be her good ear. Her little ear is hearing at about 75-80 decibels, which is not really hearing at all.
When she is hearing, so much is better for her…and for us.
She likes to listen to music in the car, but it has to be turned up incredibly loud for her to hear it. Our car blares kid music everywhere we go.
We let her watch a movie about once a week…Our neighbors might be tired of Cars…
It makes me sad to see her hold a noisemaking toy up to her ear, and ask me if it is broken, when it’s working fine and seems loud to me.
I hope my little M can hear again soon.

Prayers for you! My husband had a congenital cholesteatoma, which left him deaf in one ear, and hard of hearing in the other… I sometimes forget how amazing it is that he is adept at communicating with me and with others through extra means of communication such as reading lips, and even making eye contact to tell facial expressions. But i wish that he was not too proud to take a sign language class with me… it would mean so much, knowing that he has less to begin with, and it all goes someday, even in those of us with perfect hearing. *sigh* i will be praying for you and little M!!!
