The Little Smiles…

This week, my children went to the dentist. Both of them. For the first time. I dislike the dentist, so I was worried my babies would hate it.

Little M was not a fan…but that’s ok, because her teeth are great. And in all seriousness, they barely touched her, because she was freaking out a bit. But they did take an  x-ray of the front teeth.
As we all know, little M lost one of her front pearly whites quite a while ago…seven months ago, in fact, when she was four.
Not only did her tooth, after being loose for a long time, fall out, but it was a top tooth…apparently usually the bottom teeth fall out first, not the top teeth, and this concerned our dentist.
Everything looks good, according to the x-ray, but our little M’s age was brought up again.

Our boy did not fair so well.

We knew his teeth were bad…they looked bad when we got him in China, and we knew he would need to see a dentist soon.

He was so cooperative, and I am wondering if he is missing the gene that allows you to feel pain, ha.
His teeth look like they hurt to me, but the dentist said they must be incredibly painful…and he never even flinched when she poked at them. He loves for us to brush his teeth, and we never see a flicker of pain cross his face.

Many things could have caused this… bad dental hygiene for sure, along with the sugary drinks we were told he loves, but also, possible premature birth. This is the second time premature birth has come up…too bad we will never know the answer to that.

Poor little guy…

All but three of his teeth are seriously decayed, and those three teeth may have problems, too.

Since he has to be sedated to do all of this dental work anyways, they will wait to do his x-rays until then.

So we are waiting for the hospital to call us with a date, but soon, our little guy will have his entire mouth worked on…

I am dreading it, and looking forward to it at the same time. I will be relieved when his teeth are healthy, and I don’t have to worry about him being in pain.
But I am sad that he has to have this at all.

I am so grateful for his cheerful little outlook through all of this, though.  He is a trooper!

I'm sorry you have yet another procedure to endure. Thank goodness he doesn't seem to phased by it all. Josie has had two root canals. Her poor teeth were a mess too. Her x-rays indicate that she's actually missing adult teeth that never formed. We have lots of orthodontist visits awaiting us in the future.
