What’s The Name?
Among other things, little M is learning that everyone has a name. Until recently, her animals had no name, kitty was simply “kitty,” and bear was, naturally, “bear.” A few weeks ago when I asked what her friend’s name was (at school), she said her name was “girl.”
But with her growing awareness of language and those around her, she has also become aware that people have a name.
In the past few weeks, we have often heard her say “what’s the name?” Most of the time, I don’t know, as the person she is referring to is usually a stranger. Ha!
She lists all her school friend’s names, and it is so cute to hear her tell little stories about her little friends.
When we take walks she will point out squirrels, birds, and other animals, and ask me their names. So cute.
I love seeing her grow more aware and able to communicate. I know we still have a long way to go, but each week we see great progress. And even though looking at how far she has to go and how behind she still is can sometimes be discouraging, looking back at how far she has come is truly amazing. The other day someone asked me how old she was, and when I said she was three, the woman responded that she spoke very well for three. It was so nice to hear!
Our girl has worked so hard, and is working so hard to learn and to communicate, and I am so proud of her!
